Absolutely the most unique and iconic Custer store front is for sale and ready for your brilliant idea! Built by local legendary stonemason Monte Nystrom (who also built the fireplaces at nearby Custer State Park resorts) in 1929, this structure is truly a masterpiece as Nystrom faced the building using 55 tons of petrified wood. Inside is one of the WORLD's most colorful fireplaces made up of petrified wood, fossils, quartz, mica, petrified mosses and cave crystals and hundreds of other specimens found in the Black Hills. The building has 21' tall ceilings making this small gem feel so much bigger. The beams, rounded window/doors and massive wrought iron chandelier add to the wonderment and awe of this building. There's a small office in the back with a sink, a restroom and closet. Using an outside entrance, there is a full unfinished basement that once was an apartment. This building hosted a tourist shop, Anderson Jewelry and then in recent years Barfoot Jewelry and now a gallery and specialty item boutique. Although small, this would make an ideal reservation center, specialty shop, high-end retail or any other enterprise that needs high foot traffic. There is just no other more recognizable building in Custer and it's just waiting for your entrepreneurial endeavor!
